How do you turn off character nametags?
I am brand spanking new to Guild Wars having been a WoW vet for awhile.
I utilize 3D LCD shutterglasses for stereoscopic gameplay which works quite well with Guild Wars (and looks AMAZING!). Unfortunately, unlike WoW, the name tags in Guild Wars for players, NPC's and monsters are actually 2D objects which mess up the stereovision. Is there a way to turn them off? Alternatively, and a LONGSHOT I know, are there any mods that change the tags to 3D objects? Thanks in advance! Wazoo |

you can turn off your entire HUD with ctrl + shift + h, though i doubt thats too useful.
try somewhere on the customise display thing on options, though i doubt youll find anything. and WOW! at the 3D glasses thing, sounds like the next gen gaming thing |

3D glasses have been around for awhile.... they are just not very "plug-n-play" which makes them kinda a niche thing. Takes a bit of tweaking to get things just right. You need to be using an Nvidia card as they have stereoscopic drivers so the glasses will work with any DirectX (or OpenGL for that matter) 3D game. You also need a CRT monitor vs. an LCD (although there are some iffy work-arounds for that) with a high refresh rate to prevent getting eye fatigue. Lastly, the game itself can sometimes cause problems; i.e. this nametag issue. In this case it is more annoying than anything, so I'll still use the glasses to play. The WoW developers did an AMAZING job even though they did not specifically design WoW for 3D glasses. EVERY object in WoW is 3D. Thus nametags, for instance, actually appear to be floating over the head of the character and scales with distance. Here (and in UT2004 for example), the nametags are 2D objects.... so while the character might appear to be 10 feet inside your monitor, the nametag appears to be painted right on the glass. Hence, if you focus on the character, the nametage appears like doublevision... and vice-versa. Again... more annoying than anything.... Need for Speed (and other racing games) also show off the glasses nicely. GREAT feeling of being there..... Wazoo Last edited by wazoo; Mar 19, 2006 at 11:15 PM // 23:15.. |

Alternatively, I also can take 3D screenshots in old-fashion anaglyph format. All you need to view those are a pair of $1 old-fashion red/blue 3D glasses that come with things like Spykids 3D DVD... The 3D effect is not nearly as good as the LCD glasses... and the color in monochrome.... but you'll get the idea. I'll take one and post it if anyone is interested.... Wazoo |
